Product Review: Twisted Sista curl activator

So I picked this little tube up while I was in Walgreens one day and I wanted to give it a try.  Being the product junkie that I am I couldnt resist it....lol.  Even though I was a little sceptical because it said "Curl Activator"...it made me think of a Jeri Curl...the one I always wanted when I was little but my parents refused to give me one...I remember one time I wet my permed hair  and added S-Curl Activator to try to give my own self one...lol...okay I digress...let me get back to the topic at hand.

Here are my thoughts on Twisted Sista:  Following the directions I put the product on while wet.  My hair is a 3C/4A so it really twisted my hair and the spiral curl was defined.  My hair didnt feel heavy or greasy...The only thing I didn't like about this product is that I still had to add some type of oil in my hair to make it not look so dull.  I guess that is not a bad thing, but I like to wash add 1 product and go...

Of course since I last blogged I have tried several more products...more reviews to come...

Growing.......

This is my hair after I washed it today.  It is still slowly growing...sometimes my patience is wearing thin...but I have to think about something else to get my mind off of it.  I am so ready for a new style. I thought about getting braids or a sew in...but I feel like that defeats the purpose of going natural..so I guess I will just stick with it....I still haven't found a good styler yet...or maybe a good styler that my hair likes.  The Shea Moisture is still too heavy for my hair.   This is my hair with nothing on it...

Update: Young Natural Diva

My daughter Reyna has taken her braids down and now she is ready to rock her natural hair do. We are trying to decide what products we will be using on her hair.  We will be trying Kinky Curly tonight...I will upload results tomorrow...

a Fancy Funnel Cake......Beignets

When you tell people you are going to visit another state they tell you places to go visit and things you must try.  So of course,  people told us that we must go to Cafe Du Monde to try the Beignets.  The first night we got there some of our group went to get some, but they were asking what kind of coffee you want and I didn't know what a beignet was so I was like I will pass. My roommate bought me one anyway but I didn't get to eat it...and she said it was better eaten when hot...We ventured out again a few days later and we happen to walk up on Cafe Du Monde...we needed to take a break and this looked like a good spot to take it at.   The girls still kept asking me what kind of coffee...but its 100 degrees and I am outside...so REALLY??? you asking me do I want coffee..lol...I want water!!! and I am glad that is what I got.  OMG!!! the beignets are good and I kept trying to figure out what they taste like...I know....a funnel cake!!! lol  They are not made in the shape of the funnel cake...but they taste like them right down to the confectionate sugar that they put on top.

Author Mary B Morrison

While at the EMF I met Mary B Morrison.  I have met her before at a book signing....but I had to see her again, because I had a few questions.  The first book I read of hers was Soul Mates Dissipate...and I have followed the series of characters over the years.  She came out with a book called Darius Jones and this character had come a long way...but I didn't like how this book ended...I needed to find out if she was going to write another one to redeem Darius. It was very funny because she was like "slow down sweetie"... She has not decided if she is going to write another addition to the series but wanted me to know that she has another series of books coming out that I might like.

My Adventures at the Essence Music Festival 2011...

My adventures at the Essence Music Festival...where do I begin.  I left town on Thursday, because I wanted to go to the Steve Harvey Morning Show on Friday and it started at 5:30 am.  So I wanted to be well rested.  I have been to New Orleans, but never to the festival.  Let me just say I had a great weekend.    Of course Friday I missed the the SHMS...I overslept..lol...but I got out the room in time to go to the Convention Center at 10:00.  When we arrived I didn't really know what to expect.  I was so overwelhemed! There were so many people and so many booths to visit.  Stars were everywhere!!!  My head was moving back and forth because I wanted to see everything..  My first stop was the Ford Stage because Boris Kojo was there...he looked so good!!! lol

We visited the Visa Sound booth and we met Biz Markee

There was so much to do a the festival.  My friend won tickets to the concert on Friday night...so we went to see Usher....my camera died so I didn't get to take any pictures of Usher.  He did a wonderful job.....from now on any time he is in concert, I will go see him because he did the darn thang!!! lol...

The highlight of my trip was Sunday Night...I got to see Doug E Fresh in the Superlounge....OMG!!! he has not aged one bit...he looked so good!!!  I was just in pure shock...I LOVE HIM...lol  He really gave the people what they wanted....

The other highlight of my night was New Edition....and yes all 6 were there...you heard me!!! Bobby Brown was on the scene....people was screaming "Bobby" in their Whitney Houston voice...lol  Those guys put on a good show...I became hoarse because I was screaming and knew every song that they sang...It was great!!!

My last highlight was Mary J Blige...she did a great job!! and she had on high heels...she was jumping around on that stage for about 2 hours and was still moving......awesome...

Lets talk about Bourbon Street: one word...FILTHY....lol...I am so serious...Its really sad though...I was told by a local that the only people down there acting wild and crazy are the darn tourist....lol...It was crazy...people grabbing your hand....touching on you and stuff like that...now don't get me wrong I have been to New Orleans before...and yes I have been on Bourbon Street...but I have always gone during the fall...so not as many people as it was at the Festival...so I had to get my karate chop on...and of course...someone had to touch my hair.....and you know that is my pet peeve...so I had to go straight hood on some folks...lol  I think the tourist feel like that is how you are supposed to act on Bourbon Street.  That you have to forget any sense you have and just loose control.   NOT!!! you don't have to do that to have a good time.

So to sum my trip up....I had a great time....I had great roommates and travel mates.  The only thing I didn't like about the trip...(keep in mind, I didn't plan the trip, I jumped in on a trip already planned)...was that we stayed 15 minutes away from the hotel.  We didn't stay downtown.  So that was an inconvenience, trying to find a parking space and having to pay for parking...We didn't have the opportunity to go back to the room during the day to rest, so we left the room at 10am and didn't return until around 4 if we had to go to the concert or by 7pm.    One thing that I bought that was a must have....I bought a portable fan from Brookstone...it had a strap to wear around your neck.....it was much needed especially walking down Bourbon Street...it was very HAWT!!!!

Well that is pretty much everything in a nutshell.  I can't reveal all the things we did in New Orleans...because what is done in New Orleans....stays in New Orleans.... :-))

some of the girls that I went to NO with

Jill Scott....she is so beautiful....

we wanted to eat here but the line was too long...soooo we just took a picture...lol
